Father Poem by Niyitanga Pacifique

Father

O soldier I recall by his actions,
Character, words, and reactions
That weren't endurable
For a kid, but that made me able.

Oh! papa, If I were beer you loved
If I were money you always kissed
Before having drinks
Oh, jokes of yours and your winks!

Oh! Pretty drawings of helicopter,
And guns thou used to draw after
Singing old songs;
Papa, I remember all your doings.

So many things folks didn't know
About him, about us, about how
He was like my brother
In his last days, we spent together.
