Fasting Poem by Luke Fellner

Fasting

Fast
that's what we do
not food nor water.
We fast
what's most vital of all

Fast
our words swallowed
emotions hidden
in pantries full
pantries overflowing

Hidden from sight
hidden from mind
as we are taught
from lessers before

Fast
it eats you -
the hunger to speak
the hunger of lies;
deceit; ignorance;
wishing that it all
will fade away

Anorexia
it is the true word,
deprived of emotions
derived from security
so still
we fast
