Fantasy Interrupted Poem by Gautam Sen

That day the hues
of huge crimson
lasted on the sky
for hours together,
every one thought
it was yet another dawn as usual,
yet another
'sunshine on their shoulder'.

It wasn't actually!
Birds' chirping became
a song of perpetuity,
flowers' smiles went long
reaching horizon ~
blossoms' fragrance filled
the air to last as long as
desired by the artistry of the Lord.

One little boy with
his gleeful heart,
grins reflected on his face
sang a morning hymn
taught in his school,
his very melody of the prayer
charmed everybody
and they begged of him
not to stop the song
as they longed for
the miracle of marvels
to be a long lasting one.

No one bothered
to look at the watch
nor the clocks hanging
on the walls did get
any worried attention.
No one feared that
the world outside
may browbeat
the laps of living fantasy
so enjoyed by all,
keeping them engulfed
in a great hypnotic
spell of the universe.

Those colorful magical
moments came up
with a big splash of splendor;
not so realized but relished
and desired by all
for it to stay on the earth
with all its miracles of mirth
at the cost of a dawn
to be missing
in the forthcoming days,
skipping right to the
maturity of the morning -
no dawn needed.

Only one man stood there,
unhappy and feeling odd,
waiting for the sun to set -
the dark night to come.
He found his comforts
in the shadows of dark,
a least inclined
to any artistic serenity
shaped out of dream or fantasy,
knew the need of the mundanity
as a prime necessity,
posed himself
as a vexed interruption
in the midst of
a paradisaical beauty.
