Fancy Cars Poem by Valerie Dohren

Fancy Cars

Rating: 1.0

Fancy cars and diamond rings
Silken gowns and sparkly things
Chains of gold and follies grand
Mansions built on feudal land

Never wanted all above
All I really want is love

Pearls a-hanging round my throat
Leather skins and fur-lined coat
Rubies, sapphires, emeralds green
With such things I won't be seen

Never wanted all above
All I really want is love

Pretentiousness is such a farce
Those with poles stuck up their …..
Showing off their ill gained wealth
Much of it acquired through stealth

Never wanted all above
All I really want is love

Simple things are much preferred
Watching close a little bird
How he feeds his family
Singing high upon a tree

All I want are those above
Brought to me through nature's love

Listening to a trickling brook
Reading through a poet's book
Lovely music in the air
Perfumed flowers, sweet and fair

All I want are those above
Brought to me through nature's love

Nature's gems have greater worth
Set upon our precious earth
Diamonds glist'ning in the sand
More beautiful than on the hand

All I want are those above
Brought to me through nature's love

Brought to me through nature's love ……..

Valerie, A voice from the past here. The one star should be 5! The site gets it wrong. Love this poem with its beautiful, non contrived, imaging. Many new descriptions with no clichés on board. I haven't posted for some years - the muse still visits but less frequently. Best wishes and thank you.

What we desire and what we should shun - beautifully stated in a lovely poem.
