Family History Part 03 Poem by Cowboy Ron Williams

Family History Part 03

Rating: 5.0

I can't imagine the expression
on great grandmother's face
when she saw him riding up the lane
with this unknown guest sporting a ring.
(Or maybe a horseshoe nail bent in similitude) .

He had somehow neglected to alert the family
that he was bringing a wife home for dinner.

But, then again, what was one more mouth to feed
around a table where fourteen children were raised?

(Most of those years, she was a single mother!)

They were welcomed with open and grateful hearts
into the family, but quickly decided that living
at home as newlyweds was much over-rated.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I don't pretend that this is a poem, but I figured that this was as good a way as any to pass on my family history to my grandchildren!

Just like a man, not to let his family know what was going on! Keep the story coming!
