I can't imagine the expression
on great grandmother's face
when she saw him riding up the lane
with this unknown guest sporting a ring.
(Or maybe a horseshoe nail bent in similitude) .
He had somehow neglected to alert the family
that he was bringing a wife home for dinner.
But, then again, what was one more mouth to feed
around a table where fourteen children were raised?
(Most of those years, she was a single mother!)
They were welcomed with open and grateful hearts
into the family, but quickly decided that living
at home as newlyweds was much over-rated.
Just like a man, not to let his family know what was going on! Keep the story coming!
Its a poem and truthful one. I have also done something about family history. Will post sometime
