Falling Prices
This happened yesterday.
We were having lunch
Cooked at home
By my wife beloved.
'Oh! I didn't know that
The prices are falling', I said.
'Why? No! Don't you know
They're rising' said she.
'But I thought
Prices have fallen for
Cooking gas.
The rice is overcooked.'
She stared at me, eyes spewing fire.
I ignored her, 'and for salt:
The dosas for breakfast
And chutney had excess of it'.
I don't recollect
What happened next.
But I realise, for sure, the prices
Of many-a- thing, especially
Our precious crockery
Seem to have fallen sharply.
The poem is significant whilst the prices are high for many a item for day to day use
But this poem, intended to be humorous, was read by very few. I hope it is seen by more..
Humour is the very essence of life, Vaikom Muhammad Basheer (the famous fictionist and philosopher, who wrote in Malayalam) has said.
This poem has not been translated into any other language yet.
I would like to translate this poem

The quality of amusement has not always been hidden in others getting entertained. But also when we have entertained ourselves with their support of getting entertained by us.
In writing humour, I am not adept. The whole poem, which I thought was humorous, has fallen of deaf ears. But thank you, dear poet…
