I like this poem, and while Emily Dickerson may have been stating this about all Faith, I interpret the word being in quotes to be referring to those who use Faith as a tool to manipulate their community and the people around them… (ie. Televangelists or those who preach the prosperity gospel)

This a thought that gets straight to the point via the power of the microscope that requires no faith.

So true. I'd rather a microscope than religious books.

'Faith's alright when moderated by reality, but in the realm of the unseen, it builds its own reality, and that can be dangerous.'

That's why she had become world famous. She wrote many many short poems, with her definite statement in it. Most imporrtant for Lit. students to study her poems which must be pondered about. Indeed! Great words!

As an Atheist, I concur with this sentiment, thought unlike Miss Dickinson, I think faith is a poor invention.

A superb poem with a social moral message by the great Emily Dickinson. A well chosen poem of the day and worthy of it too.

Thought of as an eccentric by the locals, she became known for her penchant for white clothing and her reluctance to greet guests or, later in life, even leave her room. Most of her friendships were therefore carried out by correspondence. I cite here Dr. Tony's comment: Criticizing faith is not good. the more we are educated the more we depend on God. Fully agree. Thank you Dr. Tony.

Im sorry but this is a load of rubbish, God is Santa Clause for growing ups, the more education, is the realization we don't need a god for this world, only ourselves.

There is no god Tony, never was never will be, man created him, now we know longer need a lie.
