Extended Stay Poem by Colette Dright

When it comes to hotels, we are given the option to "Extend our Stay" by doing a late checkout.
That's so nice of them (Smile) . But truth be told, ask yourself, why do we need to "Extend our Stay? "

There are times in our lives where we have Extended our Stay, such as, in jobs, in hotels, in relationships, with friendships, in our mindset…
The season was over, why was I still there? Exactly! Whether the mission was a success or not, whether you accomplished the goal or fulfilled the purpose, when do you know it's time to exit? How long do you stay where you are not happy and feel unappreciated?

I can recall a time where I Extended my Stay.
I worked at this job for about 3 years (wayyy longer than I was supposed to) . However, I was wrongfully terminated. But to me, that was God closing that door, because if it was up to me, I probably would have still been there. God was letting me know, you fulfilled your purpose so it's time to move on.
I realized during my time there, I was there to make a difference. And I did. So much so that I was promoted with higher pay, full time hours and benefits. The purpose was fulfilled within the first year, so why did I Extend my Stay?

Another time my Extended Stay was when I was in a 5 year relationship that wasn't leading to nothing. Just stagnant. In the natural it's like, we're just going through the motions, playing house, doing wifely duties without the title.
The relationship had become draining. The fun and excitement from the first two years had turned into routine. Sex was routine (yawning) , blah, blah, blah, same ole, same ole, going to the grocery, cooking, cleaning… same ole everyday basic and boring stuff.

In the spiritual aspect of it, God was showing me this wasn't the direction my life was supposed to be at, at this point. I Extended my Stay longer than I should have. I been was supposed to check out, and guess what? I finally did! Thank You God.

Look at where you are today. Are there areas where you are Extending your Stay? Such as, in a relationship, friendship, job, house, marriage, city… And if there is, ask yourself, is "Extending" your Stay benefiting you or adding value to your life? If it is and you are happy Extending your Stay, then stay. But if you're not, why haven't you checked out?

As for me, there is one area where I'm glad I have chosen to "Extend my Stay, " and that is in the presence of the Lord. Be Blessed and Be Happy.
