Eulogy For Those Lost Too Soon Poem by Richard Wlodarski

Eulogy For Those Lost Too Soon

Rating: 5.0

What if I hadn't taken that last drink
That had led to the deadliest of stink
What if I hadn't stepped into that monster of a car
And trespassed onto a life that hadn't gone too far

What if I hadn't gone into that bar
Because of something that wasn't on par
What if I had thought less of me more of thee
And had wandered into more transparency

What if I had waited a little longer
Before taking that trip that led to wronger
What if a moment longer I had frozen
And treasured the paths that I had chosen

What if...less alcohol
In my life's toughest haul
What if...awakening sober
Made me a little more proper

What if...the powers that be
Let go of the hypocrisy
Stopped the monster who killed the victim
Instead of beating around the brim

What if life became fairer
Instead of so damn scarier

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Although not autobiographical, this poem is based on a true story. The perpetrator was a pizza delivery guy who had so much potential. I'm considering submitting the poem to MADD.
