Escaping The Chains Poem by Cody Napier

Escaping The Chains

Self-doubt is echoes of our past
Haunting our present moment
Strangling the future we wish for
The verbal chains locking us down
Tethering to a place we want to flee

The ticket to freedom lies within the mind
But we're too scared to look inside

There's comfort in the doubt
No effort to be made
Submit to its quiet whispers
Letting yourself lie in its certainty
That you can be okay here

This paradigm leads to nothing
Your soul will not be nourished

Search deep down inside
Find the secret in the mind
It will unlock for you any door
The choice is yours
But the journey is not swift
You cannot stray from the path

Commitments must be made
Promises have to be kept

To drown out the self-doubt
There must be a flood of affirmations
Honesty from within your being
Strength behind every thought
Put forward to yourself and the world
That you are certain in your actions

The doors you seek have been chosen
Their key lies where you refused to look

Suddenly the pathway is clear
Confidence in your ability floods your mind
The doubt becomes overpowered
Verbal chains meld into armor
The past becomes accepted and understood
You take control of the present moment
Not knowing where the future will lead

There's satisfaction in the journey
Embrace the ride until it's over
For it doesn't last forever
Not everyone escapes their chains
