Ernst Barlach - sculpture Of The Flying Angel Poem by viacheslav kupriyanov

Ernst Barlach - sculpture Of The Flying Angel

Tragically unstreamlined
every wind of the century
passes through his face

Angel in a greatcoat
Angel in a hospital gown

Chains needed
to stop him falling
to earth

A church vault needed
to stop him flying away

(Gustrow,1972)

Translated from Russian by Francis R.Jones
