Epcot

First visit to Epcot - 7th January 2023 - Deanna Samuels

A long-time ambition was to visit EPCOT,
ever since brother Alan said it was fantastic 30 odd years ago.
Have done World of Disney as a granddaughter's birthday treat
but never got back to Orlando to give EPCOT a go.

A chance came on a New Year vacation and family visit.
Decided upon the day and explored the Disney booking site.
Finally, after working it out and a bit of advice, booked two tickets.
The anticipated excitement rose as the chosen day approached.

An Uber to the Fantasy Kingdom Grounds worked well,
the entry made smoother by a perfect hostess.
Armed with tickets, a hired scooter and first-time badge
entered into a world of unknown possibilities and expectations.

Mingled in with the already growing mass of co-visitors.
Guide map showed Country Pavilions lay around World Showcase Lagoon.
Decided to walk circuit in an anti-clockwise direction, first stop, Canada.
A depiction of The Rockies and movie of Canadian scenes from East to West.

Next pavilion, United Kingdom, memories and thoughts of home,
everything British, so much forgotten brought to mind.
Sat by the waterfront to eat some real fish and chips
before moving on from a photo-op with a live Mary Poppins!

Walking along the pathway and over the bridge, ooh la la, France.
Models of the Eiffel Tower, The Louvre, The Arc de Triomphe
and the crepes and the cheeses, oh so yummy, but the line ups too long.
Continued en-route to the next pavilion.

Morocco and a stunning replica of the Koutoubia Minaret of Marrakesh,
lots of little side rooms to explore, weaving in and out each open door.
Then on to the Pavilion of Japan, welcomed by the red Toril Gate,
a favourite spot for photo ops aside the World Showcase Lagoon

The Pagoda and garden walk lay-out were superb with interesting statues,
lingered a while to experience Matsuriza playing majestic Taiko Drums.
After that came the American dream; firstly a harmonious singing group
and then superb theatre show of USofA history from Mayflower to present.

From USofA pavilion, Italy's presentation follows with splash of grandeur.
The magnificent replicated St Mark's Square, felt I was back in Venice
exploring the arcades of Doge's Palace, the Bell Tower and fountains,
statues, gardens, gondolas and line ups for superb gelato never ending.

Time to break away, passed the GDR, too much beer and bratwurst!
On to China's pavilion depicting a gloriously decorated rotunda, statues,
gardens, replica of Terracotta Army and the Jeweled Dragon Acrobats.
A worthwhile visit including Reflections of China, a 360o Circle Vision film.

Norway next port of call, walk-about viewing replica renowned attractions
such as Frozen Ever After, The Royal Sommerhaus Meet, Anna and Elsa.
Onwards to final country pavilion, Mexico, a pre-Colombian pyramid greets.
Sat a while by the lake, entertained by lively Mariachi singing group.

A slow walk from Mexico area, passing by World Discovery,
more for the young at heart as inter-galactic race and a NASA take off!
Reached World Celebration and stepped onto an amazing educational ride -
history and innovation from Stone Age to the digital world and into space.

Following this historical lesson, found ourselves working computer machines,
pitting our wits against clock and computer to build skeletons - did well,
then driving a racing car against adversary, low odds but got to the end.
A great and satisfactory finish to a most fulfilling day!

The World Nature area will have to wait for a future visit as our time ran out,
as with the specialized restaurants and shops that each country featured.
No need to travel the world as the world is at one's fingertips at EPCOT.
So much to be discovered, a day not enough. Uber called, whisked away.
