English Poems From Moon Struck

The Unicorn of Kings
I am the most inspiring feature in the varsity grounds
Visitors circle me, drawn by my animal magnetism

My neighbour, the lion is a moron, he says I am vain
His mane is a mess. His claws are filthy
His attention to personal grooming is nil

I am highly spiritual. I meditate. I am immortal,
A true heraldic beast
On frosty nights my breath blooms like flowers

I am here by royal appointment
The stuff of legends
Check me out on the internet:
‘is chasing unicorns the best commercialisation strategy? '
Unicorns head start up companies with a value
Of one billion dollars. There are 1,000 around the world
As for the lion?
A saggy bag of guts
Who has lost his bite!

Confession
I collect words obsessively
Every two months I have my head shaved bare
I can outstare my cat
I have a phobia about noodles. It's a worm thing
I sometimes pretend I'm a horse
I whinney poems

My womb dried up like a prune stone
Now I inject moisturizer
Like NASA firing water bombs
To rehydrate the planet men call Mars

Ingredients of a Deeside Honeypot
Tomaverie's stones look over Cromar
Horses and cattle graze in the lush grass
Barley like smouldering gold sways in the wind
In Drummy woods, bikers and walkers pass

This is the land of the earth house, deep in Culsh
Folk song and fiddle music, hills and heather
Beekeepers, farmers, villagers, combine
This jigsaw of the Howe to bring together

The Tarland Burn meanders through its heart
The Cromar History Group keeps heritage
Alive, with articles of times long past
While shows and fairs step up to take the stage

Each graveyard holds its dead safe in its lap
The local folk and tourists take the air
Tramp Morven, Pressendye, Tarland's skyline
View Corrachree - was any sight so fair?

Lake Ontario, Oshawa
Cold lake water: After 50 years of separation
Brother and sister
Sit on a pier in Oshawa
Two siblings
Wetting our toes

Condensing into days
A whole half century

Feels so good,
Facing the world together
Me and my new-found big brother
A Highland-Canadian bear
With a heart of honey

Listen to the wind, it talks
Listen to the silence, it speaks
Listen to your heart, it knows…Ojibwa proverb

Leftover in Travelodges,2022: A List Poem
On a cushion, a replica of Queen Elizabeth's crown
A case of champagne
A lease for a Greek timeshare
A barrister's wig and gown

A tattooist's portfolio left by some poor jerk
A wedding box of 500 lottery scratch cards
A life size cut-out of the famous Jurgen Klopp
If I left those cards I'd decidedly go berserk

A sleighful of xmas presents
A 5 foot Chinese temple birdhouse
An oxygen tank
And smart phones left by spotty adolescents

A pristine Norwegian Ostoehovel cheese slicer
A pair of working collie dogs, Hamish & Ramsey
A witch costume with a hat that's pointy
If uncollected, they're sold for charity
Could any ending be nicer?
