It's hard what empathy is.
Here is what's not with some ease:
Empathy is never done
Merely when you just listen
To gauge other person's grief
As to render some relief,
Nor when hint him to be strong,
Nor yet when tell him to act
And never just interact—
These might go terribly wrong.
The worst still would be to say:
‘That's nothing', to say your say—
It happened to me the ‘ther day.
Beware the lady's made of clay.

Putting yourself in the shoes of another (empathy) is one of the hardest things to do. Where as it is easier to feel compassion, sorrow, or pity for the hardships that another person encounters. Excellent write Pathak.
Your delineation of empathy and compassion is to the point and well done, I liked the finer points between the two. Ah, when there are poets that so well-knowingly appreciate...Thanks dear Poet.
