(An old poem from my premarital years)
What had yah think of guys,
who plead you with such beseeching cries
and threaten to even take their own lives
if you didn't give them your hand
in m-a-r-i-t-a-l ties?
Are all lasses merely to take that
as a wily trap
set in a web of lies?
Such profession of passion
at its all time highs!
Oh, I don't plan to strike while the iron's hot
I can't always melt in the melting pot
Ah, besides methinks the guy should get over it
and move on as time flies
Infatuation as it is, usually dies...
Lovers are famous for goodbyes and surprise.
Premarital datimg love is usually so fickle
It can land you in real heartbreak's pickle.
For passion like music notes, shall soar and rise
and the fall of the notes, an inevitable surmise.
But the thought is disconcerting
truly quite traumatizing
What if for your rejection
he really kicks the bucket
and all your life you carry
that burden of regret.
For a telegram of his suicide would be
a 'black' mail indeed
But Love is for living why in death for it bleed?
A love letter billet doux can also turn into blackmail...
Those types of lovers are in need of professional counselling. The sooner the better! Laying such a guilt trip on their lover is the worst mind game possible.
2) With psychiatric intervention, that vicious cycle can be broken. And the respective parties can move on with their lives. Your very mature and well written poem brings much-needed attention to a very sensitive subject. Excellent work worthy of top marks!
A TELEGRAM OF HIS SUICiDE WOULD Be BLACK MAiL INDEED.' This has your characteristic zing, but it's deadly serious. He is wrapped in a bubble of delusion, and you use laughter to burst it.
Love those lines, in fact I like the whole thing, people confuse the thirst for for the labor of love. If you loves you they dont go around manipulating their paramours against their will. That's just a narcissus
Your commonsense remarks about courting show a wholesome view of relationships. I'm glad you dug this out of your old papers.
