'Embracing Endings' Poem by CHERRY GADINGAN

'Embracing Endings'

In the throes of fate, we stand and see,
Prepared for endings, hoping for a decree,
Understanding you were right, it had to be,
Just knowing you're alright, brings solace to me.

Aching heart, as you bid your last adieu,
Tears fall freely, there's nothing I can do,
To find acceptance, for your peace to ensue,
I'll bear this pain, for our love, it's true.

May this anguish fade like shadows in the night,
Though it's heavier now than a heart's own weight,
I grasp your reasons, and they feel so right,
In this painful moment, love won't alight.

I know the day will come when you'll depart,
But your memory forever etched, never to depart,
For all you've given, eternally in my heart,
I'm grateful, my dear, for every cherished part.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
'Embracing Endings' is a poignant and reflective poem that explores the theme of acceptance in the face of inevitable endings. The poem delves into the emotions and thoughts of someone who is experiencing the pain of saying goodbye to a loved one, whether through a physical departure or the end of a significant relationship. Here's a reflection on this beautiful piece: The poem starts with a recognition of the role of fate in our lives, acknowledging that endings are an inescapable part of the human experience. It conveys a sense of readiness to confront these endings, even though there may be a lingering hope for a different outcome. This opening sets the tone for a journey of emotional depth and acceptance. The second stanza paints a vivid picture of the pain of parting, with tears freely falling and a sense of powerlessness in the face of loss. It captures the raw and immediate response to the departure of a loved one, evoking empathy in the reader. As the poem progresses, it begins to explore the idea of acceptance and understanding. The speaker grapples with the reasons behind the ending and finds solace in the belief that it was the right path. This moment of insight marks a transition from raw pain to a more complex emotional state, as the speaker begins to reconcile with the situation. The poem beautifully illustrates the weight of grief, describing it as heavier than a heart's own weight. This metaphor vividly conveys the profound sorrow and emotional burden carried by the speaker. Despite this, there is an understanding that the reasons for the ending make sense, even if they don't alleviate the pain. Towards the end, the poem takes a more hopeful turn by acknowledging that, though the loved one may be physically gone, their memory will forever remain etched in the speaker's heart. This recognition of the enduring impact of the person and their contributions to the speaker's life brings a sense of gratitude and warmth to the poem's conclusion. 'Embracing Endings' captures the complexity of human emotions when faced with farewells. It navigates the terrain of sorrow, acceptance, and gratitude, ultimately embracing the idea that even in endings, there can be a sense of eternal connection and love. The poem encourages readers to reflect on their own experiences of saying goodbye and finding meaning in those moments of transition and change.
