This is a lovely sounding poem but the first stanza just doesn't make sense to me. I've tried and tried to work out its meaning but without success. The poem does however sound like something out of first year Philosophy at University - authoritative with sharp logic & reasoning qualities.

Distinctly amusing and certainly well-crafted... but.... doctor of prophesy... hmmm... does the beast exist? I don't really think Nostradamus would count but perhaps the Englishman, Dr. John Dee, or one of several Islamic mathematician-philosopher-seekers-after-gold whose names I never can recall?
