Edith Cavell Poem by John Fairlamb

Edith Cavell

Rating: 5.0

This is Edith Cavell HUMANIT

One hundred years ago she stood
So eight German soldiers could
Shoot her dead.
At the end of the range
In occupied Belgium, a victim of war

Her 'crime' you see, was helping People escape harm
And nursing people back to health
No matter where they're from.

Edith was a patriot
Diligent and true to the end
Her principles, she would not bend.
Nursing was her calling
Faith her bold profession

Far from being angry and
Hating her captors

She said 'Patriotism is not enough,
I must have no hatred or bitterness for anyone.'

PATRIOTISM IS NOT ENOUGH

The Third Reich (the Nazi Germany) was an evil wind that blew no one no good. Hers was a story of tremendous courage and selfless service to humanity.
