Edgar Allan Poe Comments

Rating: 4.9

They all wash over me with pitying eyes, they think that I don't see.
Yet they are only crude jagged faces on the canvas of my dreams.
Empty their wishes float, as they seem to pray my safe return.
How can they know the fever that within this prison burns.

Didn't know if I was reading Poe or Strolis. That's a testament to your artistry as a poet. Truly a magnificent write.

This is a great poem - utterly beautiful. I have read Lenore only in parts. Your writing points to something I have sadly missed. I will now make it a point to have a complete reading. Your style and mood reminded me of Robert Browning. I thought I was reliving his Last Ride Together. Excellent write. (10)

Oh! This is utterly fantastic. You eulogize Poe by sounding just like him- -that is an awe-inspiring task to set your pen to and more to succeed at. Congratulations on the excellence of this poem as a stand-alone piece ow writing as well as a tribute to one of the world's best writers.

Its such a profound poem that it deserves many reads. The imagery is breathtaking. I haven't read the poem Lenore by Poe but im sure this one captures the spirit of the original one. A tragic tale of love and loss that touches the depths of the readers' heart n for a considerable time the reader stays under its spell. Full marks.

You are a great poet, my dear, even by this only poem.I have read Poe's 'Lenore' quite a lot of times, I started once translating it into greek but too many the difficulties met and it waits.Yours here is like a resurrection of Poe's spirit.Proud of you.

So much like Poe, totally grasped and held my mind, it was almost as if I was reading Poe, himself. Deep and dark yet with an inspiring spirit of love. Great poem. Thank you for sharing. RoseAnn

The sense of loss you have expressed in these lines seems to take over by the readers too! To be brief, a wonderful write! One of the most absorbing poems, i have read recently! Poe's loss, you have made everyone's loss! We were enough to make the Robins blush as we weaved a bed of wild grass. Hers was the hair that called for my touch to caress in silent bliss. Beautiful lines! Top marks! Tell me she waits on the shore with my steed, our escape and her heavenly kiss!

I too am an admirer of poe's work. This is an excellent poem and is very much enticing me to know more of that great poet's personal life. At present what ever I must have read is totally washed out from memory. Thank you for sharing.

I'm glad you wrote this! You captured a unique aspect of Poe in this write. Your colorful, storytelling style of writing suits the subject matter well. What a sad but beautiful tribute to Poe and Lenore... and yes, he would have given it all up for her!

Tis the season Pam, I have within me like so many people that romantic love for the autumn moon and the tales that lurk in the misty corridors of our minds. Poe embodies that dark passage between the horror of the unthinkable and a refusal to surrender to his fate.

Thank you so very much Poe's tragic personal life burned hot in love with his young bride Virginia and having lost her like so many women in his life was a blow that brought us appreciative readers this poetic eulogy.

As I am wrote this poem I was listening to Allan Parson's Mysteries and Imagination. I do not take Poe lightly when it comes to a poem. Please re-read it as I just improved upon the rough draft! Happy Autumn
