This poem means more to me than you can imagine. We are having a lot of earthquakes where I live due to the oil industries use of many water injections wells. Your poem expressed such feeling and pain from our earth's standpoint. Loved it!
Thank you Beach Girl for reading and commenting on my poem.Excessive utilization of earth's resources causing irreparable damage to earth's environment.
The outrageous exploitation of the Earth by the humans leads to Mother Earth becoming more and more aggressive and she is expressing her indignation oftener recently through Earthquakes, land slides, floods and drought.....! Through the first person narration, the poem arrests greater attention and Earth's silent plea to respect and restore her is very audible! Great write Bharati!
Cry of pain! ! Because of the ways of mankind on earth. Destroying everything. Thanks for sharing this poem with us.
I like that you chose the narrator to be Mother Earth herself, the victim herself- -makes these evils done to her more personal, more painful. Superb write, every word layering on the impact. Bharati, you are a sensitive poet, feeling the various tortures of life. 10 +++++++++++++++++++++++
You have captured the woes of Mother Earth so very well in a heart-rending manner. Superb write. I join my friend Denis Mair in full empathy with your thoughts. (10)
We are grateful to the earth for its bounty, its generosity. We may try to imagine existence from the earth's standpoint, but when humans have been hurt the human viewpoint gets in the way...and so we attribute anger to the earth. This is only natural. I think it is usually good to mix human feelings with the earth's feelings. This helps bring us closer together and we can feel the earth's generosity. But can we really know gratitude or vulnerability from the earth's standpoint? The earth is vulnerable to impact from a big meteor, which would disrupt the equilibrium of its atmosphere. We are so preoccupied with our small vulnerabilities, that maybe we can't feel that larger vulnerability acutely. A huge tectonic shift would jeopardize the earth's ability to provide a stable homeland for many. For a provider of living space, that would be a tragedy. The earth also has things to be grateful for. If the moon were too close to the earth, ocean tides would be disruptive and there would be more earthquakes. The current earth-to-moon distance is a good arrangement that we can all be thankful for. Also, the earth has been placed at a good distance from the sun. The earth has its vulnerabilities. If the oxygen balance of its atmosphere is lost, then its life as a living biosphere will sicken. I think the earth's anger is manifested most of all in the minds of thinking, feeling human beings who consider the earth's perspective. Your poem makes me think about these things.
Thank you Denis Mair for your exhaustive comment. When mother earth is vulnerable, be it from a meteor or human exploitation, we all are vulnerable. As you said we should think not only from the perspective of human beings but also from earth's perspectiveOur interest llies in protection of earth and its environment..
Once I wrote that. Civilization is a furious animal gulping everything... '' In your poem you have rightly pointed out the curse of the civilization... deforestation is the main problem...there is no escape...Man is a newly 'kalidas' chopping the same branch on which sitting... thanks for sharing...
Thank you for your marvelous comment .Yes like Kalidas we are cutting the branch on which we are standing.Who will enlighten us?
YOU SEE MY BEAUTIFUL FACE In the first stanza Mother Earth extols her own beauty which she knows fills us with joy. Then she lists some examples of it: green things, birds. B-U-T beginning with stanza two she unleashes a teriffying anger, and sustains it for six stanzas. There isn't one item in that list that does not carry blame doe humanity: WE DID THESE THINGS TO OUR MOTHER. Her beautiful face is scarred by our actions. You meant this poem to be a wake-up call, and I'm wide awake after reading it. It is sheer truth-telling. B-U-T the last four lines are so reassuring: She is our mother still, and having spent her anger, she returns to the care of her creation. What a generous and blessed closing for your poem. I want to respond to Mother Nature with a prayer of thanksgiving: Her love is stronger than her anger.
Thank you for your insightful comment.A mother loves her children. She wishes them to remain happy. But she can not tolerate when they go wayward or cause harm to each other. She becomes angry. As you rightly said her love is stronger than her anger.A mother cries after she punishes a child and showers upon him more love to console him. We should all be thankful to Mother Nature for all the blessings.
This is a strong message to everyone who destroy forests in the name of development. The world should wake up before it is too late to save the earth. Very nice. Keep inking.
Your poem has stirred the awareness to stop the mindless mining, digging, felling of trees, pollution of the earth and the atmosphere destroying the environment......thanks for sharing this beautiful lesson...
Boil anger Shake and shake I want to bring down Your sky rise Crush them to ground I become angry Really angry I shake your prides Crush your vanity Raze them to ground Then I sigh of relief And become normal Once again I engage in my creation. A true interpretation of the Mother Earth's Fury and revenge. A beautiful flowcof emotion showers simultaneously. Thanks for the sharing of the lovely poem.10+++ for it. Subhas
Marvelous poem. Every word cuts through the heart...as to what Earth must be feeling.
