: Ealing: Poem by Jra Gra

: Ealing:

As far west
From the West End,
At the end
Of the Central Line.
As the etiolated *
SPIRIT
Of Downing Street.

On the Common
The Dryads
Almost dumb.
The stones slow
To speech.

Red is fire,
Is mystery,
Is pyramid power.
They came,
Created,
Vanished,
In the oral history,
Myths, legends,
Hieroglyphs,
Of Inca, Maya, Olmec
Toltec, Aztec,
A remnant remain.

Mystic, fey lovers
Of disorder.
A cottage in the forest,
Well-water, wild herbs,
Plant knowledge,
Natural wisdom,
Wise-woman
White witch
Angie?

: - - -:
30/12/91

* describes a plant that is
unusually tall and spindly and
deficient in green pigment
owing to lack of light. Weak
And spiritless.
