E FLAT MINOR is a trenchant poem. I use that adjective so often I looked it up in the dict'y to get the meaning clear. And it fits! It means your poem sharply and clearly defines the issue. We agree on a key issue of key signatures: minor key music is MELLOW, not depressed, reflective, not sad. But your listening is framed by four negative factors which haunt the mind, namely DARKNESS, (night) , DESERT (mind) , NOTHINGNESS, ARID PLAINS (future) . But the very fact of listening and writing about the listening triumphs, and these negatives cannot spoil the inner experience which is blessed and blessing, both for you and your readers. Your poem is not about freeing the mind from the negative factors, rather it ACCOMPLISHES the freeing of the mind. I felt cleansed and liberated after repeated readings of yet another Shawiak Celebration of the Interior Self. BTW I played Schubert's Piano Trio in E flat minor several times to accompany readings of your poem. The slow movement fits it with particular force. Trenchant words + trenchant sounds = Freeing the mind of restraints! !
