Dying Child And Vultures

Dying Child and Vultures

Prose Poem by Rasheed Sandeelvi

In a barren desert, devoid of water and vegetation,
where the earth is parched and sadness lingers in the air,
a child lies here, exhausted and weak,
gasping for the last breaths of life,
his eyes dimming, the light of hope flickering.
His face is pale, his frail body sprawled on the barren ground.
Occasionally, he gazes towards the distant horizon,
perhaps in search of a savior.
But silence reigns, no answers to be found.

A short distance away, vultures circle,
their eyes gleaming,
not in search of new life,
but waiting to feast on a burden.
These vultures, victims of life's cruelty,
await the scent of a weak body.

This scene paints a picture of human anguish,
where even the last ray of life has gone mute.
Has humanity forgotten this child?
Are we all shutting our eyes,
avoiding the sight of this suffering?

This desert is not merely a geographical reality
but a reflection of our society,
where stories of hunger, poverty, and apathy unfold.
This child's cries are an attempt to awaken us,
to ask if we feel the pain of our neighbors
in our world.

The presence of vultures reminds us
that the value of life is not merely in the existence of the body,
but in the sense of humanity.
Let us understand this pain,
let us embark on a new beginning,
together,
to make this desert of life lush again.
