Were our wars really necessary? Call me naïve but this poem is exactly why war should have been avoided. Some politicians at the time believed it was necessary but that same politician did not hold a gun and experience this.

'Dulce et Decorum est' is a poem written by Wilfred Owen during World War I, and published posthumously in 1920. The Latin title is taken from Ode 3.2 of the Roman poet Horace

Deeply poignant, touching and gripping. War in all its forms must be abhorred.

Congratulations to the family of the late great poet English poet Wilfred Owen.for being chosen as The Classic Poem Of The Day. He is great becuse he has written many poems, though no money to study at a university. He served twice the war and was killed at the Sombre. True war hero!

This poem made me a pacifist. We studied it as part of O-Level English Lit and I'd never been so shocked and moved by an account of wartime.
