This is a wild, profane, all-out celebration of the sheer exuberance of life! And so many things are being celebrated in the course of its careening grasp of all things good and natural: the passage of time through the seasons, the peculiar joy of each season, the carnival spirit with an implicit permission to indulge the senses and seize available pleasures of the flesh, the need to sometimes cut loose, as you do as a poet who sets aside serious themes and language and delights in slang, the energy of common speech, dropping of inhibitions. You really capture the voices of ordinary peple whose lives are hard, who must work long grueling hours and have no leisure or vacation time. So this Bacchanalian release will be followed by weeks of hard labor. They've earned the right to over-indulge in the POTENT POTION. And they can enjoy intoxication, that BRIGHT ELATION, UNTIL THEY FOLLOW THE SUMMONS BACK TO ORDINARY LIFE AND ONCE AGAIN CARRY THE BURDEN THEY BRIEFLY ESCAPE. (I love this line: Each leaf is expressing splendor - that is the whole wonder of autumn in just 5 words and 1 image! !)
Hi Daniel, What a refreshing comment full of compliments and utterly beautiful language as well. If I could only comment as well! I will today make an effort to read through your newer works. Thanks a million, Paul
