Poem by Li Bai (Tang Dynasty) Translated by East Sea Fairy
Betwixt flowers I'm having a flagon of wine,
all by myself without anyone nearby or nigh.
To invite the Moon I lift my goblet.
With the shadow we make a drinking triplet.
Not the joy of drinking the Moon knows.
Me everywhere in vain the shadow follows.
For the time being I just accompany them two,
to seize spring fast for a full due.
I'm singing while the Moon is moving with me.
I'm dancing while the shadow's dappling blankly.
When I am sober, we make good cheer.
After getting drunk, we're apart far and near.
I wish this distant friendship would forever stay.
We agree to meet ashore the Milky Way.
