Dreams Poem by Aloumalove-Alouwou Mandjah

Dreams

Since I was little I witnessed
my mother cherished a pile of dreams
dreams of all kinds for the wellbeing of her 3 children.
I grew up sorting through the tangle of dreams.
On the path of hope and in a coded language
my mother taught me to follow my dreams
she liked to say:
'' Knowledge will set you free
laziness don't prosper
be patient
no short cut
never lose hope
you reap what you sow
respect yourself and others
be at peace with yourself
always look for the light at the end of the tunnel
only time will tell ''
Days gone by
I continue to cherish my dreams
most of my dreams were my mother's dreams
and my biggest dream was
to see my mother kiss all of her dreams one day
unfortunately before dawn
the heavy burden of dreams took my mother's life away
Alas, the day she passed away
I almost drowned in the river of my tears.
The excruciating pain my mother endured at my birth
was the same terrible feeling that embodied this trench
Thus, my gut was forced to let it go
Since I learned, dreams remain dreams
