Downtown Poem by Mohammad Yousef

Downtown

By Mohammad A. Yousef

Under the glow of streetlights,
where the concrete stretches wide,
between coffee shops and busy corners,
we found each other,
two stories intersecting,
like paths worn smooth
by countless steps.

The hum of the city,
a soft background noise,
fills our laughter,
bouncing off brick walls
and drifting through the air,
carries our secrets,
as the night wraps around us,
like an old, familiar coat.

You wore that smile,
bright as neon signs flaring,
with eyes that sparkled,
catching the light
and holding it close,
as if every glance
was a treasure,
found among the chaos.

We wandered through the crowd,
lost in our own little world,
with stories weaving
like threads through a tapestry,
your tales of mornings spent
chasing dreams,
my whispers of late-night hopes,
all blending together
in a symphony of friendship.

A food truck let loose
mouth-watering scents,
frankfurters, and fries,
we shared sticky fingers,
and memories
frying in the midnight air.
Your laughter a melody,
ringing clear
over the chatter of strangers,
against the soundtrack of life unfurling.

Time slipped by,
blurring the edges of the hour,
as we stood close,
wrapped in warmth,
every moment stretching out,
like the skyline above us,
bold and bright,
saying, "Here we are,
and it's beautiful."

So here's to that night,
when we met downtown
in a world bustling and alive,
to the magic in the ordinary,
and the way we turned
a simple evening out
into something special—
a memory etched forever,
just like our names
under the stars.
