Doubt Of The Believer Poem by Boston Kelley

Doubt Of The Believer

I believe in love
And its passionate power,
For I must do so
In this dire hour.

Between two worlds
My heart is painfully torn.
They speak their creeds,
Leaving this poor man worn.

To the world without light
Love is forever trivial.
The erotic and romantic are dead;
There is not, of them, even a little.

The radiant world rings with cheer
In the union of men and women.
It rejoices in longing eyes
And hearts that are greatly smitten.

The blackened world beckons me
As my soul sinks into despair.
Truth attempts to shine on my psyche,
Yet I am not comforted by its care.

Strong must I be
And stand firm against the lies
Lest I drop to my knees
Driven to painfully cry.

Let the goodness of love
Restore my aching heart!
Let its gentle, soothing touch
Heal and light every broken part!
