Dorothy Lawrence Ww1 Heroine. Poem by Tom Allport

Dorothy Lawrence Ww1 Heroine.

The only woman to serve
In the trenches
At the front
During World War 1
Seeing all the horrors
Whilst dressed as a man
She was eventually found out
And arrested
Then sent back home
To Blighty
To go to jail
Where she was gagged
And told never to speak
To anyone
About what she had witnessed
In the trenches
She was now alone
And isolated in mental torture
Which led to her being
Put in a Lunatic Asylum
Where she lived
For the rest of her life
Sadly nobody
Ever visited her there
Right up to her death.
