Dopamine Driven Verbs Poem by Kimberly Burnham

Dopamine Driven Verbs

Dopamine, a chemical neurotransmitter
Passing along messages
Words and directions
produced in the black stuff
the substantia nigra of the brain stem
travels to the basal ganglion
facilitating actions
smooth movements
absent in the Parkinson's brain
flowing efficient steady hands crafting words
action verbs challenging without
dopamine from the brainstem
plus conscious action messages
from the frontal lobe
and the motor cortex of the parietal lobe
look at your writing are there active action verbs
what are the characters doing
can you see them moving effortlessly
through the scenes
