Doomsday Prophet Poem by Unnikrishnan Sivasankara Menon

Doomsday Prophet

Rating: 5.0

Doomsday Prophet

Autumn,
The harbinger of maladies
The doomsday prophet.
The fall!

The fall
Saddest of all the seasons
For all the wildest of reasons,
Wilted blooms, absent fragrance
Withered gardens, colours and gaiety
The evil spell of Hades
Everything spell of gloom;
All speak of darker days that loom
Large on this unhappy colourless world.

The ghosts of the begone Spring
Spring from the wildest dread
A mild nick of its thorns sharp
Drains my heart of all hues
How shall I gather myself
From the darker blues.

Colours and fragrance
Of the spring long begone,
Warmth and hopes of the summer
Too shown the door;
Longer are the nights to come
All pervading gloom,
Cascading cold and a darker sun,
When days grow leaner
Gone are those days greener.

Let me light a candle
In the darkening morn
And try staying awake, forlorn
Over the ages dark and cold
And dream of days warmer ‘nd bold
Bright and fragrant.
A tear drop rolling down my eyes
Glimmers!

Sir, Thank you for your comments on this poem. I have seen almost everybody in Delhi keenly looking forward to autumn and winter. They enjoy these cold days. And then follows the lovely spring. Actually onset of autumn marks the end of harsh summer days. But, for me winter is a dread, because of my asthma. Thank you sir, once again.

The title of this poem drew me to go through with this marvelous write. A poignant poem about autumn so beautifully conveyed. Each season has its own beauty and strength. Autumn brings fiery colors when the season starts. Well executed write.10

Hi Rose Marie, Thank you for your appreciation of this poem on the vagaries of seasons. Yes, autumn brings fiery colours in the beginning of the season. But, I am already gripped by the evil portents, because winter is to follow and my wheezing would aggravate..
