Donald Trump - a racist and bigot II
-Gayathri B. Seetharam
I learnt from Don Lemon's show on CNN (Oct 1st,2019)
That Pres. Trump called people crossing the US-Mexico border
Snakes and alligators and said that the migrants should be shot in the leg
For it would slow them down
Such shocking usage of possible steps to take in the problem
Of illegal immigrants hoping for the American dream to come true;
Is Donald Trump being painted out to be blacker than he is
For all of the rhetoric directed in the direction of non-white people
May not be from him but from his people
But this does not exonerate him from blame
For he knew when he became President
That the executive ‘We' was applicable to him also;
The nation of the USA was founded on the principle
That all men are created equal
And this is the basis of the Declaration of Independence
The very foundation of the first successful democracy in the world;
Under Pres. Barack Obama's office, gender equality
In the form of the Lilly Ledbetter Bill was put into effect
And this grants equal pay for equal work to women
As was the equal rights for gay people made a reality;
America is showing strong evidence of going against the
Definition of democracy in English as defined by the Cambridge Dictionary on the internet
It is the the belief in freedom and equality between people,
Or a system of government based on this belief,
In which power is either held by elected representatives
Or directly by the people themselves;
Donald Trump is a racist and a bigot
Who thinks of white supremacists
As "some very fine people"
And America is undergoing a retrograde movement
Under his presidency;
Progressive thinking dictates that we believe in
The goodness of humankind
And act in the favour of equal status for
The people of the nation in a democracy;
There should be no discrimination based on
Race, religion or creed or beliefs and opinions
For a democracy is a nation of the people, by the people
And for the people
And the leader of the nation of the USA
Who is the sole representative of its standing in world society
Must not resort to racist and bigoted behaviour.

The pity is thatTrump had stoked the same racist, white-supremacist fires during his election campaigns. He knows very well that he has been elected to power on these very planks. Now, the next election is not far. He takes out the same set of cards to play, so as to ensure his re-election. I tend to conclude that the average American is white supremacist deeper in his mind. And o wonder, Trump gets support from people like Modi, who nurtures similar sentiments..
