Doll Dress And The Doll's Approbation (Final Version)

a dress of pink rayon with a milk pearl sheen
with tiny stitches tiny seams, gold trim.
for a winter cotillion.
a 19th century air
cloud drifting on an inward stairwell
chiffon, a trailing sash of blue.
and she'll half raise her hand
as if to upbraid the snow
under a glass dome
then with a rosebud smile
indicate that she's at home
hearing my sister, Christmas good
play Tales from the Vienna Woods
on a toy piano.
