I only have one child, an adopted son, who was born in the Philippines but came into my life when he was barely one year old. And he was starved for affection after being abandoned by his birth parents and sent to an overcrowded and understaffed orphanage. The the day I reached out my arms to hold him for the first time, he was so hungry for affection he dropped right into my waiting arms. So it goes. We parents assume a precious responsibility. And the wonder of it is that I taught my son the same things here in America that you listed in your poem. Your poem is a universal statement of what the older generation must teach the younger generation. If we could just stay focused on our love for our children and making the best possible environment for them - we would NEVER fight each other in wars. Am I right?

This poem is a good piece of advice not only for children but also for all those who believe in violence.
