Diversity Poem by Asit Kumar Sanyal

Diversity

A Hindu is not only a sadhu
wearing saffron dress
or shaved head
with a tuft at the back
or with longish mark
of mud, turmeric, kumkum
on the bridge of nose or forehead
One may follow it
these are options
and fashions of religious schools.

a man in dhoti kurta is a Hindu
in the suit, boot, tie also a Hindu
a woman in Saree, salwar suit
is a Hindu
in skirt, jeans, short dress
also a Hindu
there is no dress code for men
no dress code for women
one who goes to temple, is a Hindu
who does not go... also a Hindu
one who finds god in idols is a Hindu
who doesn't... also a Hindu
a vegetarian is a Hindu
a meat eater also a Hindu
one who chants mantras is a Hindu
who does not also a Hindu
diversity is the DNA of Hinduism.

Hindu is not name of religion
The religion is 'Sanatan Dharma'
Hindu is a culture
purely the culture of akhand Bharat
a way of life
developed at the bank of Sindhu river
and seasoned, modified, updated
in thousands of years
it taken good things from others
from inside and outside
from traders, invaders and travelers
came from East, West, North, South
by land or by sea.

Hinduism is like the matted hair
it has a common way of worship
but no dress code
no permanent fashion
no whip
no hate,
so, Hinduism is the best religion
in the world
a Hindu believes in one marriage
spiritualism, devine love
and thinks, he is a tiny part
of the devine.
