Disappointment Poem by ANJANDEV ROY

Disappointment

The man decided to visit his native land,
where he had last visited thirty years ago,
As a teenager it was truly a heaven for him then,
The green grassy fields, plants and trees, birds and their sweet songs, chirp of the hedge crickets behind the bushes,
All were absolutely phenomenal.
A stream which flowed beside the land enriched its beauty and splendour,
Very often the wind created lovely ripples in its bosom
And the teenager enjoyed an ecstatic pleasure.
But those days were gone,
Visiting there again after so many years,
The man understood the reality of the time,
Which had smashed his dream;
It was the same native land but wearing a different cloth,
As there was no trace of green fields and trees in that place,
Instead of it the big and dull factories stood there emitting foul smell every moment,
The air was constantly getting polluted with it,
The water of the river had already lost its spontaneous flow and dignity,
Standing there he thought in a pensive mood,
He had committed the worst blunder to revisit the place,
As it had contaminated his sense of beauty and sweet imagination.
