Thanks for this honest and insightful poem, Daniel. I am a real New Year cynic, very loathe to partake in the mindless celebrations. I like your realsitic approach which is at the same time positive and optimistic on another level. I have at least two poems connected with New Year which I will now upload, but you have inspired me to write a new one. Thank you!
Reading your work is like digging to unearth a treasure chest and realizing that every scoop of earth is ore of gold. Some particularly compelling lines: they go even deeper into their illusions, and find the truth of things blocking further descent, in a triumph of insight or an accident of wisdom - words that will compel us to make this new world familiar, as if we have always been native to its time and place. Poets have long been schooled in such a unity of hope and necessity. A celebration of making sense of the unseen, making comfortable the unfathomable. Brilliantly conveyed, Daniel.
Thanks so much Seamus - I have always wanted to be part of a community of poets and I know I find myself in one right now. BTW How is Lisbon? I've always wanted to visit that city - the stamping grounds of Camoens and Pessoa (and heteronyms)
Keep the vision alive. Sensitivity and perceptions of poets is always outstanding. Here it is blended so uniquely with New Years wishes. Wish you a Merry Christmas and a very happy New year.
Thanks much Savita and Holiday greetings to you and yours. I've beern absent too long from your site.
Poets have long been schooled in such a unity of hope and necessity. What we dimly perceive in these early days will be illuminated soon enough and it will then be common place. - - - - - -Your vision for this New Year is wonderful. What is dimly perceived now will be illuminated soon..Yes, poets have long been schooled in such a unity of hope and necessity. You have faith and conviction in your voice.A bright future- -one of illuminated world- - Poets are playing essential and key role for such a NEW YEAR.
Will you be writing your New Year poem, Bhararti? If you do, I'll read i immediately! .
An insightful write. Though it's silly to believe that new year will change everything still we like to indulge in mindless celebrations. But if anything new year should be the time of some soul-searching n reflection. Apart from that a new year means nothing, just a continuation of time. A thought-provoking write. A10
Nosheen your comments here suggest another poem looking at the subject of time from a different perspective: NEW YEAR IS JUST A CONTINUATION OF TIME. And only SOME SOUL-SEARCHING N REFLECTION make it special. There's an original theme there to be developed. It's good you keep the topic OPEN for more INPUT.
