from an online source: The phrase diametrically opposed means to be completely and directly in opposition to something. i see the 'humor', the mother's thoughts and the wife's thoughts. Question: is the son also the husband i.e. are two women talking about the same man, son to one and wife to another? ? and it seems natural (to me) for a wife to have a different relationship than a mother to the same man.
