IT was there all along as you went on your way,
Though you gave it your no never mind.
It was there in the night, just the same as the day;
A more vigilant thing you can't find.
It was there, always there, when you needed it most,
Underfoot, so that you would not fall.
Then, as now, as you struggled from pillar to post,
It was being and giving its all.
Now, you're out of the darkness and out of the rain.
(Oh, its duty could never be breached!)
It was there all along and will always remain,
And the opposite bank you have reached.
