I'm not at all surprised that the poet of DESIRE is also the poet of DESPAIR. There seems to be a balance in human affairs with one intensity (which is wonderful!) being balanced by another intensity (which is a bummer) . Or it goes in the opposite direction with something negative followed by something positive. Who can explain why this dynamic runs through our lives? But we don't live in paradise, and even if we did, would we want to flatten experience so there would neither highs nor lows? I would say, the ecstasy in your poems, expressed by your silver tongue, make the valleys of disappointment bearable, because just ahead rises one of those summits that Elvie experienced as a wonderland! !
