The thought is clear, however, I am a different generation. I grew up to 15 age without a doctor, so I learned to find people who explains the sicknesses differently then a doctor. In this case the dementia comes when someone wants to forget some bad memory of his life, so he looses all, because do not want to face the world with what he did. The poem is well written.
Your poem has this capacity of creating a picture or scenario or flow of evevnts infront of the eyes.......great :)
