Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
...
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may tread me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.
...
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
...
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.
...
Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there. I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
...
It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of ANNABEL LEE;
...
Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village, though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
...
The free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends
...
I do not love you except because I love you;
I go from loving to not loving you,
From waiting to not waiting for you
My heart moves from cold to fire.

Writing a poem is not about bringing some words together to create some charming sentences. It's so much deeper than that. Writing poetry is a bridge that allows people to express their feelings and make others live every single word they read. Poetry is to educate people, to lead them away from hate to love, from violence to mercy and pity. Writing poetry is to help this community better understand life and live it more passionately. PoemHunter.com contains an enormous number of famous poems from all over the world, by both classical and modern poets. You can read as many as you want, and also submit your own poems to share your writings with all our poets, members, and visitors.
A POEM IN THREE CANTOS
Canto I
Ye Alps audacious, through the heavens that rise,
To cramp the day and hide me from the skies;
Ye Gallic flags, that o'er their heights unfurled,
Bear death to kings, and freedom to the world,
I sing not to you. A softer theme I choose,
A virgin theme, unconscious of the muse,
But fruitful, rich, well suited to inspire
The purest frenzy of poetic fire.
Despise it not, ye bards to terror steeled,
Who hurl your thunders round the epic field;
Nor ye who strain your midnight throats to sing
Joys that the vineyard and the stillhouse bring;
Or on some distant fair your notes employ,
And speak of raptures that you ne'er enjoy.
I sing the sweets I know, the charms I feel,
My morning incense, and my evening meal,
The sweets of Hasty Pudding. Come, dear bowl,
Glide o'er my palate, and inspire my soul.
The milk beside thee, smoking from the kine,
It's substance mingled, married in with thine,
Shall cool and temper thy superior heat,
And save the pains of blowing while I eat.
Oh! could the smooth, the emblematic song
Flow like thy genial juices o'er my tongue,
...
You're repeating yourself
for the twentieth time.
Is there another man in my life?
Yes. Yes. What did you think?
Even graveyards have visitors.
There are, my dear sir,
a lot of men out there,
and no garden is ever devoid of birds.
You're just an experience I had,
and here I am,
...
If loving you is wrong, then let me die,
for in your eyes the truth begins.
All can judge and the stars may frown,
I still choose you and take the crown.
They call it madness, I call it love,
The hearts that met, though far too late.
If right means losing all I feel
Then let wrong be love, and love is real.

A poem, a spark that soon goes out
Mere whisper of flame not a shout
Its glow dies when falls, bouncing about
Without oil of ink or in paper drought

It's true
I can talk myself out of you
Something I don't want to do
Now you want to lift me up

Across the sea, where silence sleeps,
My anxious heart its vigil keeps.
Unwell, I know, but nothing more,
No message comes from the distant shore.

Death cannot break true love,
for it is from our God above,
true love will carry on,
unafraid of darkness's yawn,

Back in the day, eons ago, an afar time when us old people were young
I can attest to this, being old now, considered an antiquity by many

I am hearing the blue jays, a sacred bird for me....outside crying. Then the crows. The day is dark and wet...I saw 11: 11 and 1: 11 today and beat on my heart, thank you...and quiet. Except for the sound of me practicing my new song. I am listening. Church bells. The active day of people's prayers. I see it all as a sacred thank you. Living in this place, where I can breathe and express my sovereign world. In peace. At least, for today.

If I wallow
And don't swallow
That too big bite
My body hurts

How much does the sadness
In this precious moment,
A crossroads between the
Undeniable hope that gives

I dwell
In the absence
You left behind

If you die before me
I would jump down into your grave
and hug you so innocently
that angels will become jealous.

Beautiful is the 'thank you'
Wrapped with gratitude,
Offered to peace prone people
Who offer what is real-themselves

Today in Japan, tomorrow in Rome,
Next day by an ancient civilization or in Hawaii or Coast Ivory,

The low lands call
I am tempted to answer
They are offering me a free dwelling
Without having to conquer

Lust is chaos, love is art.
