Defenses Down Poem by Sven Rhoads

I let you in to give you a fair shot
But change of me was all that was on your mind
All that you want was what I am not
Now all that is left of us is just an axe to grind

I let the defenses down to welcome you in
You wanted to tear me down for what you want
Your eyes wont see the very best in me
A double edged sword became my honesty
Now I build the walls back up deep within
As you continue to tie yourself in knots
Your one track mind just cannot accept me
There's no more compromise in my anatomy

So keep your love at arms length
And take this kiss back you gave
I'll walk the world all alone
Living one foot in a grave
So hold in your tears to remind yourself
Because I'm moving on not looking back
You cant bare the burden of the lone
I'll put my heart back next to the stone

Take me for what I am
Not what you try to make me
So try to understand
You will never come to break me
