We slept the night before
With tears of woe
But in our sleep
We almost forgot!
With sunrise came a gaily cheer
The town crier came with the news of hope
So we set out like a bride in a hurry
And in our moment of despair;
We almost forgot!
We forged on in troops,
Our shoulders high;
Dragging our feet as we hurried along
Our tiring spirits gained their strength
In our delusive hope of a certain kingdom
Such was our bliss
Before the plunge;
A deadly spectre
That confounded our aims
And what came as our saving arms
Turned into a distressing horror
Yet again; a journey short- lived
So, we buried our heads in grieve
To mourn our loss in peace
And for a moment;
We almost forgot!
But soon;
We heard his sauntering feet,
From a distance; clattering with ease,
The cause of his thrill no one seems to know
But as our usual rite
We were on feet
The town crier is here
A peculiar usance,
And by this time tomorrow
We are set for a trite
Yet a journey in futility.....
