December Snow Poem by Adamae Liege

December Snow

Rating: 5.0

The snow begins to fall
The town dresses up in white
Kids run amok shrieking
And yelling in great delight

Friends meet friends
Snowballs fly
Barricades of ice
Stand a mountain high

Holly hangs on porches
Wreaths on all the doors
Christmas Trees in houses
Who could ask for more?

Sleds are parked in driveways
Shovels on the lawn
Bikes are put away for now
Until the sun greets the dawn

Ice skims the street
Scarves hang in rows
Gloves line the shelves
Children come in half-froze

Hot-Chocolate steams in mugs
Eager hands warm their fingers
Marshmallows lie in wait
And for now the whipped cream lingers

Lights glow on houses
Snowmen stand in yards
Shadows steadily lengthen
And set the moon's guard

Smoke rises from chimneys
Chill fills the air
The North wind keeps blowing
Catching the sun unaware

The sun slips beyond
The moon rises high
The snow steadily deepens
Rising by and by

The snow's begun to fall
For now we've reached December
The town dresses up in white
Until the memory is all we can remember.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I grew up in Utah where it snows all winter long, but then in the summer all you can do is try to remember the blissful cold of the snow, and sitting around the Christmas tree, or building a snowman or snowangel This poem is for my Bffs from Utah, who all love the snow as much as I do.
