I feel ancient, as though I had Lived many lives./// the feelings of previous birth; a theme of rebirth; now I feel around of me all are my familiar from many years ago!

What a beautiful poem! I got submerged in it while reading. 'Only in dream, like this dawn, Does the grave, awed intensity Of our young love Return to my mind, to my flesh.' - every word of these four lines sank deep inside me, on this cold, misty December morning. 5 stars***** to this fantastic poem. Glad to see it selected as the 'Classic Poem of the Day'! Congratulations to the poet!

One of Jack Kerouac's greatest friends. And influences. His lifestyle and religious influence had a profound effect on Kerouac. I wish I knew who he was talking about in this poem. His last stanza reminds me of Pope John Paul II.

Tormenting memoirs of first love, may be first and last, and longing for one another living away from each other has been wonderfully unveiled. A great classic poem.

Indeed, it was an error to separate this poem from the series of the three earlier poems; see " Four Poems For Robin" .

This is not the whole poem. This is a section of a beautiful poem called " Four Poems for Robin."

Great poem dedicated to greatest ethical values and reverence for them. A touching melody, indeed.

How, in lean verse, Snyder wonders back in time to choices made. I expect no less from him. And I relate! In my case I observe that my choice has made me a better person, more comfortable in my own skin, and so I feel the choice was a good one, that I had divine guidance in making it. But still I wonder sometimes. -GK

It is so sad and touching! Something permanently lost, a dream, a hope, a life together!
