Dear Poet

Dear Poet
Dear cohort
I write to beseech you
To remain true
To the art you swore
To love forever more
Do not look back
You will see black
For, your words
Can change the world
Or, turn to salt
As you look back to exalt
That which causes grief
And not relief
Know it's hard
For every bard
To be open
Often
Preferring to suffer
And buffer
Emotions alone
Commotion at home
When you read a work of art
Do not start
To form a judgemental opinion
Of a minion
Go through the page
Get the message
Separate the messenger
From your own life's misadventure
Knowing fully well
Every poet has a story to tell
Different than yours
So don't raise your nose
Remain true
Through and through.
To the art you swore
To love forever more
