Dear Old Me Poem by Alison Mujati

Dear Old Me

Dear old me

Fragility was a portion
You drank not to toughen
I wish to be you now.

You were taught kindness
Hoping one day you will replay.
This world has no mercy.

Where you gave
Now they are taking.
Used to fight now it's nothingness.

They think it's a weakness
You know it's wisdom.

Before you fought every battle.
Threats and bullying received your stern test

Yet now you give another cheek for every slap.
You don't fight fire with fire
Every violence now is poured with water

Are you the one
Or you are living the nemesis of your image

Tough face, a devil
While your inside is soft and fluffy.
Wool is the correct smile.

So many questions now
A dozen answers for one
What have you become?
Has words wearied you?

I don't get it
Your love seemed true
Now you take everything for granted.

Did they chase you from glory days.
Now I always see your worry ways

Come right back old me
Come back there is a crisis
Baby cries all over
You can be their savior
