Dear Mr. President Poem by Doreenda Nikoi Kotei

Dear Mr. President

Dear Mr. President,
I'm happy to have you as my leader,
Congratulations for accepting such a huge mantle,
No one knew what it took you to get there,
But today, you bear this great and enviable title,
You're my inspiration and superhero,
I admire you and wish to be like you someday.
But these questions I keep thinking about:
How was it for you while growing up?
Where you from a rich or poor home?
Did you ever attend a popular school?
Were you the most brainy student in your class?
Did you ever struggle with homework?
Where did you go for vacations?
What nicknames did you get from school?
Whatever it was for you, you've made to the top!
It will be so cool to dine with you someday!

Dear Mr President,
You're such a powerful and honourable gentleman.
I listen to your speeches and they get me curious to learn more about you:
What were your best and worst moments as a young man?
What would you have become if not the president?
How was it for you finding a lady to marry?
Do you enjoy leisure and have time for your family?
What were some of the toughest decisions you've made so far?
Are you at peace with all the hustle and bustle around you?
Are you happy and fulfilled with your life?
What one thing will you change for the better even if it took your life?
In all that you do, Just know that I've got your back to see you shine!
It will be an honour to travel the world with you someday!

Dear Mr. President,
As a father and leader of many people,
I know a lot of problems come to your table.
But somehow, you try to put things right and get us going smoothly,
I know there are systems and structures to guide your affairs,
But there are few questions I'll like to inquire from you:
How does it feel when everyone is look up to you?
What's your number one motivation?
Do you sometimes feel sad, frustrated and alone?
Does the position seem all prestigious and rosy as we think?
What legacies do you plan on leaving behind?
What one word will you say to younger ones with such a dream?
Where do you see yourself in years to come?
I appreciate your good works and vision,
Not everyone can be courageous enough to come this far.
It will be my privilege and a dream come true to host you in my home.
Well done and all the best Mr. President.
